A natural paradise between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, with an extraordinary wealth of wildlife and floral where the wolf is back to hunt deer, roe deer and wild boar. A green oasis, where for centuries monastic orders cultivate silence and preserve the natural heritage.
This is the largest park in Italy’s green, covered with forests for about 80% of its surface; these forests are the most extensive and best preserved in Italy, which include the wolf and the eagle among the big predators and numerous species of ungulates. The forests and the many differents natural habitats are the wonderful frame where signs of ancient human presence stand: villages, mule tracks and two main sanctuaries of great charm as Camaldoli and La Verna.
Among solemn pines, fresh streams and beautiful waterfalls deep in the woods, you can feel the mystical atmosphere of places like Camaldoli and La Verna, which welcomed great men of faith and thought. These landscapes have been praised by writers such as Dante and Ariosto, and here remained in seclusion men of deep spirituality as St. Romuald and St. Francis of Assisi.
A hike in the park is a magical experience, where the beauty of nature blends with the sacredness that still pervades these places.
